Wind Potential Assessment

wind potential assessment studies

Wind potential assessment comprises wind measurements at representative locations of a wind farm and wind flow modelling over the entire wind farm area.

We are accredited to carry out wind potential measurements according to the EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard.  Moreover our long experience in conducting measurements ensures:

  • Representativeness of measurement locations
  • Instrumentation quality
  • Compliance of mounting according to standards
  • Maintenance of stations and sensors
  • Quality check of measurements
  • Analysis of wind data with the special purpose software, developed in-house, (Multiwind 3.26)
  • Provision of detailed results
  • Overall characterization of wind features in the examined area

The wind flow modelling is carried out with a commercial CFD tool. High resolution digital terrain data is used to produce the regional map in a 20 x 20 km (minimum) region centered over the project area.

Verification tests on the model accuracy for each specific application are conducted to assess possible bias error and uncertainty levels. For this purpose, all available wind measurements are exploited to the maximum possible extent. Cross-checks of measurements and model predictions are performed and corrections applied if required to remove bias errors.
