Power curve measurements

power curve measurement - two wind masts

Our company applies the IEC 61400-12-1 Standard and follows the Power Performance Procedure of the MEASNET network to measure the power curve of wind generators.

It is of a vital importance for all investors to know how their wind turbines perform and this is exactly what a power curve measurement of a wind turbine is all about. It ascertains the relation between the electrical power of the wind turbine and the wind speed at the wind turbine location. The purpose of the measurement is to evaluate the theoretical or warranty power curve of the wind turbine.

In a complex topography, the so called “site calibration” is carried out prior to the erection of the wind turbine for the estimation of the wind velocity transfer function, between the wind turbine location and the reference mast location. The usual duration of the required measurement campaign for both the site calibration and power performance measurement is a three month period.
